The Honest Marketer

Awareness-raising
Below is a selection of ways to promote your university or college and the value of Higher Education (HE) generally. Kathryn can help you decide the most effective strategy and assist you in implementing any tactics.

Community newsletter: Make these available in print as well as electronic form and circulate in neighbourhoods or at public places, such as libraries, GP surgeries, dentists etc.

Community day:Bringing the public on campus to showcase what you do and the impact you have on individuals, businesses and communities near and far is the most time-consuming and expensive method of engagement, but it is also probably the best way to shift people's perceptions. You can always double up on a pre-planned open day or institutional celebration.

Public engagement: Through regular volunteering, practice-based learning, public speaking and collaborative research, universities and colleges can bring the value of HE to life and make it real and meaningful to lots of different audiences and communities.

Brand building outdoor media: To ensure HE remains a post-18 option, universities and colleges must be visible to everyone (not just current parents or prospective students). Outdoor media seeps into your consciousness and can subtly reinforce positive messages which later build interest among future parents, grandparents and prospective students.

Newspaper wrap:Fairly standard practice as part of a student recruitment drive, but an annual local newspaper wrap-around is a great way to get your message directly into people's homes.
